Freiraum is a workspace in your browser. Next to the six tools you open your files, documents, appointments, chats, contacts and emails – from your own Nextcloud and your own mailbox. Nothing is moved, nothing is stored twice.

Ready in three steps

What replaces what?

Also as an app for Windows and Mac.

Dunkelkammer, Papiermühle, Pixelhütte and Schnittstube are available as test versions to install. They run entirely on your computer – no sign-in and no internet. Your files stay with you.

The apps are not digitally signed yet, so your computer shows a warning the first time you start them. This is normal for unsigned apps. Only download them from this page.

• WindowsIn the blue window, click “More info”, then “Run anyway”.
• MacOpen the zip file and drag the app into the “Applications” folder. If a warning appears the first time you open it: System Settings → “Privacy & Security” → “Open Anyway”.

Which Mac? Apple menu → “About This Mac”: if it says “Chip Apple M…”, choose “Mac with Apple silicon”; for “Processor Intel”, the Intel version.

The apps leave out what needs a server: team storage, Nextcloud and generative AI. Select subject, remove background and the other local AI features are included.
